Mukundamala a famous Bhakti text written by Kulasekhar Alvar, a great king by birth, ruled Kerala for 12 years in the 8th century AD. Though a king by birth, he had deep love for God, especially Lord Krishna.

The literal meaning of Mukundamal is garland of verses on Lord Mukunda. This book contains 41 verses as a garland to Bhagavan Krishna. In this text we discover the heart of a devotee, how much he feels for the lord and how much he identifies with Him in the form of a friend and a servant. Kulasekhar Alvar salutes Lord Krishna, referring to Him as Mukunda, one who bestows liberation.
