In the Hindu tradition, 108 is not a number, it is a symbol of infinite.  Thus we have 108 beads in a japa mala and 108 names in an ashttarashata namavali.

This set of 108 names, normally chanted during the archana vidhih in puja,  is also part of daily prayers in many homes to invoke positive and pure vibrations.

The temples and altars of Chinmaya Mission centres and the homes of the devotees often resound with the 108 names of Pujya Gurudev.

Set to sonorous music, this ashtottarashata namavali chanting soothes frayed nerves, ushers peace and creates a silence, akin to a feather fall on the snow !
