COURSES/ YOUTH EMPOWERMENT PROGRAMME

Chinmaya Mission's Youth Empowerment Programme (YEP) is a value-based leadership programme for young college graduates who have a keen desire to learn Indian culture and serve India.

An initiative of All-India CHYK (Chinmaya Mission's youth wing for young adults, ages 18-28 years) YEP is a one-year, work-study, residential programme that has been acclaimed throughout India.

YEP empowers its participants, known as 'Yuva Veers,' to actively Learn, Serve, and Grow. YEP includes Vedantic studies, training in a variety of fieldwork, and hands-on internships-all of which are designed to promote individual inner strength and holistic transformation for a balanced lifestyle of personal growth and selfless service.

YEP is conducted free of charge. The financial support for the lodging, boarding, and programme-related expenses of all the participants is provided by Chinmaya Mission.

Learn

YEP's two and half-month, residential training is conducted at Chinmaya Mission's Vision Centre Chinmaya Vibhooti, in Kolwan, near Pune, India. YEP invites various professionals and educators from all across India, as well as Chinmaya Mission acharyas, to share their wealth of theoretical and practical knowledge with the students, in order to give them a vision of harmony and effectively train them to better serve India.

In YEP's two and a half-month, intensive training course, the participants learn:

  • The fundamentals of Vedanta, through texts like Tattva Bodha, Sadhana Panchakam, and Bhaja Govindam
  • Select portions of Shrimad Bhagawad Gita and other philosophical treatises
  • Reading, writing and speaking basic Sanskrit
  • How to conduct workshops on topics such as Attitude Management, Time Management and Stress Management
  • Facts about Indian culture
  • Yoga and physical training

Serve

Upon the successful completion of their two and half-month training, the newly appointed Yuva Veers have various tasks at hand. These include:

  • Serving for 12 months throughout India, in various appointed fields of work
  • Conducting workshops, seminars and counselling for youth in schools and colleges throughout India
  • Working with an assigned mentor from India's corporate sector
  • Opting to pursue a post-graduate degree by correspondence.

Grow

Yuva Veers who complete YEP's one-year training and internship programme graduate with a wealth of assets, including self-confidence, communication skills, and the ability to effectively organize and conduct workshops and training programmes. Based on each individual's qualifications, YEP also helps Yuva Veers find employment in their chosen field.

Most importantly, their one year with YEP grants Yuva Veers the fulfilment of their main purpose: the joy and sense of satisfaction in serving their motherland.

“After having studied, you have the responsibility to teach others. You are creating your world. Just as after studying from my teacher, I have been hammering it to others-THINK!-you can do it too. You must work for the good of society. Think over how best you can do it.”
- Swami Chinmayananda

“YOUTH is an abbreviation for "You Think." Empowerment is to think rightly, to do rightly, and to help others to do so. Today, in the world, "M Power" is only understood as "Money Power." But the highest way to empower ourselves and others is to make use of the Maker's Power, the Master's Power, and our own Mental Power.”
- Swami Tejomayananda
