Chinmaya Mission Mauritius

Introduction

Chinmaya Mission became gradually well established in Mauritius, particularly after Swami Chinmayananda himself visited Mauritius in 1977, 1978, 1987, 1988 and 1990 to spread the ideal of Mission and the message of the Bhagavad Geeta.

Swami Pranavanananda came back to Mauritiusin July 1975 after undergoing rigorous religious studies and training at Chinmaya Ashram in India.

After staying initially with his parentsw and then briefly at the Draupadi Amen Temple in Rose hill he was invited to stay at the new temple in Terre Rouge. he toured the island to deliver talks on the G and other Hindu Scriptures and at the same time took the feel of tghe peoople about setting up a Chinmaya Ashram in Mauritius.

He wrote to Swami Chinmayananda along these lines in 1976 which resulted in Swami Chinmayananda himself coming to Mauritius in 1977 to deliver a series of talks on chapter 2 of the Bhagavad Geeta at Amen in Rose Hill. He came back in 1978 to deliver another series of talk on chapter 15 of the Geeta.

Both series of talks were well attended and highly appreciated. This led to the purchase of the present premises in November, 1982 and the inauguration of the Chinmaya Ashram on 26th January, 1983 by Swami Balaramananda, President of the Ramakrishna Mission (Mauritius Branch).

This is how the Chinmaya Mission and the Chinmaya Ashram became firmly established in Mauritius; thanks to the impulse given by Swami Chinmayananda himself and to the dedication, hard work and spirit of Swami Pranavanananda and his team of workers.

But this is not the end. The construction of the new seat of learning “Vignana Nilayam” is another step in the consolidation for the purpose of the Mission, which is  to bring spiritual food to a world in dire need of peace and harmony.

The Mission organises throughout all its branches in Mauritius, activities such as Vedantic Classes, study groups, Balavihar, Devi Groups, Satsang and Bhajan Sessions touching all branches of Hindu community. The seat of learning is in compliance with the Mission’s tradition, open to all those in search of spiritual truth.
