Description of Diety
Mahavishnu

Sree Mahavishnu Temple at Govindamangalam is located 15 kms from Trivandrum city on Pravachambalam Ooruttambalam Road. Name of Govindamangalam is derived from the name of the main Deity. The temple was constructed and Sree Vigraha installed by Koopakkara madam Namboothiri nearly 1000 years ago. The speciality of the temple was the Vattasree kovil, (Round sanctum sanctorum) shadadharaprathista and west Darsan. The temple lost its significance on the decline of Royal rules.

For the protection and running of the temple the authorities of the Koopakkara madam handed over the temple with 51cents of land to Chinmaya Mission in 1981. We then removed the partially damaged Vigraha and then new Vigraha was installed in 1982.  Poojya Gurudev visited the temple in 1984 and offered Archana and decided to renovate the temple. Accordingly the temple was renovated and regular poojas started.

The temple was recently renovated and rebuilt according to Kerala Temple Architecture and Dwaja pratishta was also done. The temple is attracting a large number of devotees every day and the blessings of Lord Maha Vishnu is enjoyed by the community.
