Janmashtami is the Hindu festival that celebrates the birth of Lord Krishna, the eighth avatar of Vishnu, observed on the eighth day (Ashtami) of the dark fortnight of the lunar month Bhadrapada (usually August–September).

• Krishna’s birth in Mathura, in the prison of King Kamsa, who feared a prophecy that Devaki’s eighth son would be his destroyer.
• The miraculous events surrounding his birth—divine signs, the prison doors opening, and Vasudeva carrying baby Krishna across the Yamuna River to safety in Gokul.
• Krishna’s arrival symbolizes divine intervention during darkness, both literally (midnight birth) and spiritually.
