Tapovan Kuti Ashram, the Himalayan home of Swami Tapovan Maharaj, is a sacred sanctuary of peace and spiritual power. It was here that Swami Chinmayananda completed his spiritual journey under the guidance of his guru.

Located in Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand, about 3,799 feet above sea level and 165 km north of Rishikesh, Tapovan Kuti remains a revered pilgrimage site for Chinmaya Mission devotees.

Home of Saints and Sages

Considered the gateway to Gangotri, Uttarkashi is a significant pilgrimage site, surrounded by a towering mountain range called Varanavata. Tributaries of the Bhagirathi River encircle the landscape like two arms embracing the valley.

Nestled in the peaceful outskirts of Uttarkashi, the area of Ujeli is known for its ashrams and sadhus' residences. Here, on a tranquil hillside, stands Tapovan Kuti, Swami Tapovan Maharaj’s revered abode, where visitors can soak in the serenity and spiritual energy of the sacred space.

The Hut

Built in 1936 by devotees, the original one-room mud-walled kutia sheltered Swami Tapovan Maharaj until his Mahasamadhi in January 1957

Located on the hillside with a view of the soaring mountains and the rushing gurgling Ganges below

The kutia, now part of a larger ashram, stays as locus of silence, and spiritual depth, preserving the presence of the great renunciant who once lived there.

Legacy of Divine Wisdom

Inside the kutia Swami Tapovan's cot, kamandalu (Water Pot), and a few texts are prederved, while the verandah, where he gave Vedantic discourses, has been converted into a shrine.

Swami Chinmayananda spent seven years studying under Swami Tapovan,, the place exudes deep stillness and the presence of Gurudev and Parama Guru

Kashi Vishwanath Temple

An ancient temple, said to be established by sage Parshuram.

The small temple houses a powerful 56cm dark granite svayambhu (self-born) lingam, tilted slightly to the right.

Next to the lingam adorned with flowers and leaves, the Devi shrine houses a powerful trident radiating vibrant energy
