CORD had its beginnings in Swami Chinmayananda's gratitude toward the Himalayan people. Starting in 1985 with primary healthcare, CORD evolved into an organisation focused on helping the rural poor by enabling them to help themselves.

The Project Gains Momentum

In 2003, Swami Tejomayananda, consolidated all projects into CORD, the Chinmaya Organisation for Rural Development. By 2014, nearly 726 villages, representing over 50,000 participating villagers were served by CORD. Dr Kshama Metre, a paediatrician who was inspired by Gurudev’s vision for the Sidhbari Project, is currently the National Director of CORD. She has lived and worked at Sidhbari since the beginning.
