Chinmaya Mission® was established in India in 1953 by devotees of world-renowned Vedanta teacher, Swami Chinmayananda. Guided by his vision, devotees world-wide work to promote the ancient wisdom of the rishis through a wide range of spiritual, educational and charitable activities. Teaching of Bhagavad Geeta and the Upanishads is central to fulfilling the Mission’s goals for individual and societal peace and happiness. Headed by Swami Swaroopananda, the Mission has more than 300 centres across 25 countries. The headquarters are in Mumbai, India.

Founded on October 2, 1997, Chinmaya Mission Trinidad & Tobago (CMTT) has grown from humble beginnings—just three founding members—to a vibrant spiritual community of over 10,000 across the nation. Rooted in the timeless wisdom of Vedanta, CMTT is dedicated to uplifting individuals through spiritual education, cultural enrichment, and community service.
Located on over 2.5 acres of serene land at Calcutta Road #1, Mc Bean Village, Couva, the Couva Ashram serves as the heart of CMTT. Under the guidance of resident Acharya Swami Prakashanandaji, the Ashram hosts year-round classes, satsangs, and discourses across Trinidad and Tobago.
CMTT has successfully conducted several residential Vedanta courses:

Founder of Chinmaya Mission
From 1951 to 1993, driven by gratitude to those who taught him, selfless love, and a vision of universal happiness, Swami Chinmayananda tirelessly spread the teachings of the Bhagavad Gita and the Upanishads to people around the world.
His love and service have inspired countless others to put those teachings into practice in their own lives and throughout their communities..

First successor of Gurudev
Swami Prakashananda was born in California, Trinidad, in January 1964. He attended the Couva Private Grammar School in the late 1970’s. Upon completion of his secondary education, Swamiji migrated to Canada to pursue tertiary education at York University where he successfully read for a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science and Philosophy at Toronto’s York University. As a young seeker, he had his first encounter with this realized master Pujya Gurudev, Swami Chinmayananda – the founder of the Chinmaya Mission. This meeting awakened a deep-seated spiritual yearning in Swamiji and he eagerly sought permission from Pujya Gurudev to embark on this most noble journey. In 1991, Swamiji traveled to India to study Samskrit and Vedanta at Sandeepany Sadhanalaya. Mumbai. Upon completion of his studies in 1994, he was assigned to give discourses at various Mission centers across India and Nepal. Swamiji spent six years in India.
