Marking 75 years of its global journey, Chinmaya Mission dedicated the Maa Soundarya Chinmayi Mandir in Agartala to the people of Tripura on 21 April 2026; a spiritual offering rooted in service, learning and community upliftment.
Inspired by the universal vision of Adi Shankaracharya and the teachings of Swami Chinmayananda, the Mandir is envisioned as a centre for spiritual reflection and cultural engagement, with a deeper vision to take the wisdom of Soundaryalahari to the wider community. An apt offering on Shri Adi Shankara Jayanti day.
The dedication holds special significance as part of Chinmaya Amrit Mahotsav, the year-long commemoration of 75 years of Chinmaya Mission. Conceived as a landmark tribute to this milestone, the Mandir reflects the Mission’s enduring commitment to spiritual awakening and nation-building through values-based service.
In line with Swami Chinmayananda’s ideal of “maximum happiness to the maximum number for the maximum time,” Chinmaya Mission has also established a free school, Chinmaya Hari Hara School, in the region for children from underprivileged backgrounds, including orphans, children of single parents, landless labourers’ families and households earning below Rs. 10,000 a month. Founded on the auspicious occasion of Rathasaptami last year, the school currently supports 100 students and plans to admit 25 additional children every year.
Together, the Mandir and the school represent a dual commitment to inner growth and social progress. The initiative has been led by Swami Mitrananda (Chinmaya Mission Chennai), whose guidance has played a central role in bringing this vision to life.
Community participation remains a key pillar of the effort, with parents of school children volunteering in rotation to support Mandir activities. Several wings of the Mission, including Bala Vihar, Yuva Kendra and rural development programmes, are already active in Tripura.
The inauguration was attended by several distinguished dignitaries, including Chief Guest Sarsanghchalak of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh Shri Mohan Bhagwat, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Tripura Dr. Manik Saha, Hon’ble Governor of Tripura Shri Indrasena Reddy Nallu, Hon’ble Governor of Maharashtra Jishnu Dev Varma, members of the royal family and revered sannyasis.
