C-RAN (CHINMAYA – Rural Action Network) is a structured student volunteer organisation that integrates faculty members and non-teaching staff in a collaborative endeavour to serve and transform the rural communities surrounding Chinmaya Vishwa Vidyapeeth (CVV). C-RAN draws its philosophical foundation from the Chinmaya Mission’s core tenet i.e. “To give maximum happiness to the maximum number for the maximum time” and translates this into sustained as well as impactful community action.

C-RAN is conceptualised with a vision of growing together with mutual support under the guidance from the Centre on Integrated Rural Development for Asia and the Pacific (CIRDAP), leveraging the existing MoU between CVV and CIRDAP to scale the initiative’s impact, gain access to international best practices, and position CVV as a model rural-engaged university in the Asia-Pacific region. This partnership holds the potential to benefit CIRDAP by offering a live and replicable model of university-community partnership for rural development.

This project is an undertaking by the guidance of Dr. S. Glory Swarupa – Dean Innovation Entrepreneurship and External Relations, CVV and its Project Coordinator – Dr. Bindu M.P., Associate Professor-Department of Education, Governance Culture and Social System, CVV. Dr Bindu recently won the CIRDAP-REEDS International Rural Development Innovation Challenge of 2026.

C-RAN has recently received national recognition for its innovative rural development initiatives, as the 2nd Awardee out of ten under the National Awardees Category, representing the entire Asia Pacific Region. This is a recognition of its innovative approach to rural development.

As part of this honour, C-RAN’s Project Coordinator will represent the initiative at the International Rural Development Innovation Conference, to be held from 2 November to 6 November 2026, in Colombo, Sri Lanka, where the project will receive a Certificate of Appreciation and be showcased before high-level officials from the Agricultural and Rural Development Ministries of CIRDAP member countries, as well as potential investors.

Following this milestone achievement, Dr. Bindu M.P. has been appointed Principal Investigator to lead the six verticals constituted under C-RAN. Six faculty and staff members have been nominated as Co-Investigators to head these verticals. The verticals include:

Education and Digital Literacy Wing (Vidya Jyoti),
Rural Livelihood and Skills Wing (Swarojgar Shakti),
Environment and Ecology Wing (Prakriti Mitra),
Cultural, Spiritual, and Community Wellness Wing (Sanskriti Seva)
Health and Wellness Wing (Aarogya Seva)
Disaster Preparedness and Safety Wing (Suraksha Vahini)

Each Vertical Head will be responsible for preparing and implementing action plans, coordinating with the C-RAN leadership for effective execution, maintaining documentation, and submitting periodic progress reports, while driving grassroots impact across rural communities through focused, sustained action.

National recognitions like these reaffirm CVV’s commitment to community-centered innovation rooted in Indian Knowledge Systems, and mark a significant step in scaling C-RAN’s impact on the international stage.
