Marking a spiritually elevating offering as part of the Chinmaya Amrit Mahotsav celebrations, on the morning of 28 March 2026, a sacred Akanda Deepam (an uninterrupted, continuously burning lamp) was ceremoniously lit at Shri Bhakta Hanuman Temple in Ramboda, Sri Lanka.
Beautifully situated amidst the scenic hills about 30 km north of Nuwara Eliya, the temple, constructed by Chinmaya Mission Sri Lanka (CMSL), holds immense spiritual and cultural significance. It is revered as an important site on the Ramayana trail and is traditionally believed to be the place where Hanuman first set foot in Sri Lanka while searching for Sita.
The auspicious morning commenced with a reverential Paduka Puja, followed by Aarti. The sacred Padukas were carried in a traditional procession, to the Deepa Kutiya (Lamp Shrine). The ceremonial unveiling of the shrine door was performed by the CMSL President, following which the Padukas were placed on the pedestal. Welcoming lamps were then lit by the President, Secretary, Brahmacharins, and devotees. The Akanda Deepa was lit by Swami Gunatitananda. Devotional offerings in the form of bhajans and Bharatanatyam were presented. Swami Gunatitananda and the President addressed the gathering, sharing a brief introduction to the Chinmaya Amrit Mahotsav and the Chinmaya Vision. As the Secretary delivered the vote of thanks, the programme concluded with the distribution of prasadam.
As a commemorative offering for the Chinmaya Amrit Mahotsav, members of the CMSL family planted medicinal trees in the temple garden.
