Global Head of Chinmaya Mission

Swami Swaroopananda is the Global Head of Chinmaya Mission, having taken on this responsibility from Swami Tejomayananda in January 2017. He also serves as the Chancellor of Chinmaya Vishwa Vidyapeeth (Chinmaya University) and oversees the activities of more than 350 Chinmaya Mission Centres around the world.

Trained under both Swami Chinmayananda and Swami Tejomayananda, Swamiji brings together depth of knowledge, clarity of thought, and a dynamic approach to service. He is constantly on the move, whether teaching Vedanta, guiding youth, engaging with corporate leaders, supporting institutional growth, or bringing practical wisdom into everyday life. Raised in Mumbai and drawn deeply to Vedanta as a student in Hong Kong, Swamiji’s early years of service in the Far East reflected his ability to blend tradition with relevance - a hallmark that continues to define his global outreach. Whether addressing spiritual seekers, students or professionals, his message is practical, insightful and transformative.

Swamiji is the creator of the transformational Make It Happen™ programme and the author of several widely read books, including Storm to Perform, Ik Onkar , and Journey into Health. His ability to connect across cultures and generations makes him a powerful force for inner and outer change.

1981 - Association with the Mission

Swami Swaroopananda grew up in a lively creative family in Mumbai and was headed for a future in business and economics. In addition to his Hindu heritage, Swamiji had a special love for the Sikh Gurus and their holy writings. It was the sheer logic of the Holy Geeta commentary of Swami Chinmayananda that captured his heart and mind and led him to join the Chinmaya Yuva Kendra (CHYK), Chinmaya Mission's youth wing.

Swamiji has also set in motion preparations for the Amrit Mahotsav, commemorating 75 years of Chinmaya Mission’s legacy of selfless service and spiritual upliftment.

With clarity and compassion, Swamiji shares the timeless truths of the Bhagavad Gita and Upanishads through yajnas, satsangs and interactive Q&A sessions, making ancient wisdom deeply relevant in today’s world.

Embracing digital platforms, he launched initiatives such as The Holy Geeta campaign, offering free ebooks, discourses, guided meditations and live sessions — creating a global sanctuary for seekers at home.

During the pandemic, his compassionate leadership led to the Each One Reach One initiative, bringing relief to thousands. The Mission’s top performance in the Tata Mumbai Marathon and recognition among the Top 20 Best NGOs of 2023 with the CSR Impact Award reflect its enduring impact under his guidance.
