On Wednesday 17 December, Chinmaya Mission Chennai released a special musical edition of the Bhagavad Gita in Tamil, at Chinmaya Heritage Centre, Chetpet. Shri K. Annamalai, former Tamil Nadu State President of the Bharatiya Janata Party and former IPS officer, graced the occasion to formally release the audio pendrive, featuring all 18 chapters of the Bhagavad Gita in Tamil, each rendered in a distinct raga.
The release was part of Chinmaya Amrit Mahotsav celebrations for the 75th year of the Chinmaya Movement, and is aimed at bringing the message of the Bhagavad Gita closer to Tamil-speaking devotees. An audio pendrive with select verses of the Tamil Gita set to music by Maestro Shri Ilaiyaraaja was launched by the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India Shri Narendra Modi earlier this year in July 2025.
The recent programme also featured addresses by Swami Mitrananda and Swami Sureshananda, who spoke on the spiritual significance of the Gita and the legacy of Swami Chinmayananda. Additionally, Gita Panchamrit - a booklet featuring five selected verses from the Bhagavad Gita - was distributed to the audience and all chanted together. Attendees were encouraged to commit to memorising the verses. Chapters 15 and 2 of the Bhagavad Gita were sung in beautiful ragas in Tamil, and Chapter 15 was also chanted collectively.
The audio of the Tamil Gita set to the 18 ragas will be available on the Chinmaya Mission Chennai YouTube channel.
