Chinmaya MIssion Niagara’s Annual Family Retreat 2017 – Dedicated Living
Chinmaya Mission Niagara held its fourth annual family retreat in Grand Bend, Ontario, Canada this past March. Families from North America gathered together for a weekend filled with insightful discourse and engaging discussion to highlight the importance of dedicated living. Attendees were blessed to spend time with six Acharyas who facilitated the discourses and Bala Vihar classes over the weekend. Vivekji, Ginaji, Devji and Sachinji shared insightful commentary on the second half of Sadhana Panchakam, in continuing with last year’s topic, while Madhuji and Vijayji thoughtfully answered inquiries during the formal Q&A sessions. Daily sadhanas were given in accordance to the Verses that would help to internalize the philosophy of the scriptures. Under the guidance of the Acharyas, attendees learned that through sadhana, one can dedicate themselves to the Higher and truly experience independent joy.
Additionally, the weekend was filled with exciting activities, like outdoor soccer and an open-mic night, where Balvihar students demonstrated what they had learned and others shared their unique musical, speaking and acting talents with all.
This year, Chinmaya Mission Niagara sought to raise $30,000 to support our new Chinmaya Vidyalaya in Trinidad. This year, the Chinmaya Mission family surpassed this goal and was able to raise $37,500. These funds will go on to support the construction of the new facility, where academic, spiritual and cultural knowledge is instilled in their students. Please consider attending next year to experience the joy and wisdom that these family retreats have to offer.
THINK BIG! ACT WISELY!! SHOW RESULTS!!!
Life presents a variety of problems at different levels.
INDIVIDUAL: health, emotions, relationships, marriage, children, career…
NATIONAL: poverty, unemployment, illiteracy, corruption…
Analysed honestly their root cause is…
…lack of proper thought and action.
Wrong thoughts lead to:
- a defective vision
- a chaotic relationship with the world.
AND so result in…false expectations and
…disappointments at every step.
AS thinking improves…
- home environments mend
- the world is a better place.
But ALAS! Caught up in wrong thinking…
Many choose to suffer…rather than to think!
The solution: Think Big! Act Wisely! Show results!
Right thinking is most required
Remove barriers of pettiness…THINK BIG!
Big things are achieved…by mentally daring to conceive them.
Man dared to think…he could reach the moon,
…and lo! Man landed there!
NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE for the one who thinks so.
Thoughts alone bind and make us small.
Thoughts alone can free us.
BREAK this bondage of narrow, limiting thought…THINK BIG!
Not just as an individual but even as a nation.
With an altered vision…proper understanding…a good attitude
…strive hard…ACT WISELY!
Swami Chinmayananda declared…
“PLAN OUT YOUR WORK, AND WORK OUT YOUR PLAN.”
Keep a calm…balanced head…act efficiently…SHOW RESULTS!
Purity, efficiency and wisdom should steadily grow.
The result of work should reflect in the environment.
The team mates…should be integrated and happy.
The work…should lead to harmony, beauty, and all round prosperity.
Use all available opportunities to:
- harness the inner potential
- break barriers in thinking
- learn the secret of right action
BE inspired…ACHIEVE greatness in the world WITHIN and WITHOUT.
We can! We Must! We Will
SWAMI TEJOMAYANANDA
Pujya Swamiji Swaroopananda’s visit to Brisbane, April 2017
Mukhya Swami Swaroopananda’s ‘Yogas of the Geeta’ talk series in Brisbane, April 2017
In the current day, yoga is one of the most popular forms of physical exercise that is performed with the intention of gaining flexibility, losing weight and for select few for relaxing at the end of a stressful day at work. Those who attended the five-day series of free public talks on ‘Yogas of the Geeta’ by Swami Swaroopananda, the Global Head of Chinmaya Mission, were privy to the secrets of the infinite potential of yoga as described in the Bhagavad Geeta. This knowledge has been passed down to us by the great sages of the yore, and its indisputable logic was revealed to us by Swamiji in his witty, rational and inspiring manner.
In his talks, Swamiji described the true meaning of yoga, the ways in which one should perform yoga and the benefits of performing yoga as expounded in the Bhagavad Geeta. Briefly, yoga is derived from the Sanskrit word ‘yuj’, which means to unite. Yoga is that practice through which one unites and creates harmony and integrity between the body, mind and the intellect. This can be achieved through various practices including those of karma-yoga (performing action detached from stress and anxiety of the results), jnana-yoga (being convinced in the knowledge about the true nature of man) and bhakthi-yoga (having love for all), which were elaborated upon in detail by Swamiji. Through such a union of the body, mind and intellect, where the mind is calm, pure and single pointed and the intellect is convinced in the knowledge of the true nature of the Supreme Infinite, yoga is that which ultimately unites the Atman (Soul) in us with the Paramatman (Supreme Infinite). Then, by referencing verse 5 of chapter 6 of the Bhagvad Geeta, Swamiji explained that these practices are possible only if the spiritual seeker is able to “Lift himself by himself and does not allow himself to lower himself”.
On the last day of the talks, Swamiji guided the audience through meditation as he taught us the yoga of performing our actions with love. The audience was left awed, empowered and motivated by this knowledge and the true potential of yoga and promised Swamiji that their actions henceforth would be performed with devotion in the true spirit of yoga.
Geeta Sandesh Vahini (GSV) in Navi Mumbai
An extraordinary concept moving across the country, touching lives, opening minds and spreading the ultimate knowledge of the Geeta- indeed, the Geeta Sandesh Vahini has been a Jnana yajna in motion. The Navi Mumbaikars got a chance to host the Vahini from 10th to 17th April, 2017 and tour across all the nodes, viz. Panvel, Kharghar, Koparkhairne, CBD Belapur, Nerul, Airoli, Vashi and Sanpada.
Enthusiastic sevaks and sevikas got a chance to bring the Geeta sandesh to the masses, with more than 4000 visitors to the GSV in 7 days. Explaining the nuances depicted in the panels within the Vahini were 15 lively Chyks and prechyks, to a mesmerized stream of visitors!
This was a perfect example of a leader creating more leaders—under the guidance of Vedji, Vidhuji and the Yuvaveers, the eloquent Chyks bowled over all those who heard them. Language was no barrier, as the narrators adapted to the regional languages as per the need of the audience.
Morning walkers & joggers, Yoga enthusiasts, school students & teachers, Balvihar children & parents, Residential society members, temple goers….everyone got the blessings of Mother Geeta. If Hanumanji was atop Arjuna’s flagstaff in Kurukshetra, He was very much here in Navi Mumbai too, with Hanuman Jayanti celebrated when GSV was here in Navi Mumbai!
Br. Ved Chaitanyaji gave parallel talks to students, teachers and other visitors who had assembled to hear more about this noble cause. For younger children, the Yagnatorium was the U.S.P. of this event. Another attraction was the quiz session for the ones who had viewed the Vahini exhibits. Every visitor to the GSV got a gift to treasure too- the TITI book, Chinmaya Mission information booklet & Activity pamphlet. This was in keeping with Gurudev’s legacy of distributing books as Prasad!
Interspersed through the path were the holy Temples where Geeta chanting was done and Bhajans sung. As the Vahini rolled on, the wheels set in motion, the significance was not lost on Gurudev’s devotees. Were these the wheels of Time or the cycle of Samsaara? Had the Geeta Vahini come to take us to those gates where Gurudev said He would wait for us? Only Gurudev could have made the path so clear…

Satsangs in English on the Karma, Bhakti and Jnana Yogas by Br. Ved Chaitanya in Bangalore
Br. Ved Chaitanya of Navi Mumbai centre conducted a series of Satsangs in English on the Karma, Bhakti and Jnana Yogas at Sharada Mandir, Koramangala, Deenabandhu Temple, Indiranagar and Chinmaya Mission, Malleswaram centre on 3rd , 4th and 5th March, 2017. He implored upon the need to develop an attitude of stopping desiring but to become deserving when no power can stop from rewarding with what one deserves. When the person sincerely dedicates himself totally to a higher alter all actions automatically get filled with devotion, faith, love and sincerity. All the paths are our pursuit to unconditional happiness with Karma Yoga trying to achieve through selfless action while Bhakti Yoga aims at controlling the mind through unflinching love and devotion. Jnana Yoga disregards the mind and aims at the straight forward method of dissolving the mind through faithful study of scriptures under a Sadguru and grasp the right knowledge through dedicated seva and sincerely getting all doubts cleared. Once this knowledge of the Self dawns, one will realise that he is not the body, mind and intellect but an ocean of eternal peace and total bliss.
All the Satsangs were very well attended.
Bhagawan Ramana Maharshi’s Gita Sara – Jnana Yagna in Kannada, Swami Brahmananda
Pujya Swami Brahmananda conducted a Gita Jnana Yajna in Kannada from 18/03/2017 to 24/03/2017 at Ramana Heritage Centre, Sanjayanagar taking Bhagawan Ramana Maharshi’s Gita Sara. The Yajna was inaugurated by Kum. Diya, Chi. Adish and Kum. Sudhishna. Pujya Swamiji explained that all misery in the world is due to our false attachment to the body, mind and intellect due to ignorance that leads to mis-apprehension of the reality. It is absolutely necessary not to get under the influence of the senses and understand the truth that “I” the witness of all the states of experience is the light that enlivens the entire universe. It is this supreme truth that manifests in the outer world of names and forms and all duality that is experienced is only a projection just as the waves appear and merge in the infinite ocean. All realised Masters have been able to experience this state which the other sadhaks can comprehend only after intense sadhana.
The Yajna was very well attended.
