EXCELLENT MANAGERS INSPIRE
The successful management of an organization is measured
by the satisfaction and happiness of people working for it.
In the business world, customer satisfaction has top priority –
no matter what…the customer is always right!
Much depends on the LEADER in an organisation,
who must rise above limited views…
and mentally carry the total vision…
the complete panorama.
This determines…
the growth, development and SUCCESS of the enterprise.
A Sanskrit shloka, translated gives direction…
“True knowledge gives humility.
Humility leads to greater ability, which in turn leads to higher prosperity.
Prosperity if used for righteousness will lead to True Happiness.”
GOOD LEADERS must assume three basic responsibilities towards their employees:
- Provide them security.
- Design their job content appropriately.
- Instill right moral values and show them how live and work…with
Inspiration gained from the empirical world alone cannot give true fulfilment.
because joy lies in inspired action and not material gain.
Happiness dependent on the result
…postpones the experience of happiness to the future.
The CONTRADICTION:
We want happiness in the present but
delay its experience to the future.
Discover joy in the very execution of action,
AND WATCH …the quality of the performance change.
- Happy workers are more productive.
- Disgruntled workers reflect falling production figures.
- The higher the level of inspiration, the greater the output.
Desire EVEN better results – dedicate the action to a noble ideal.
The quality undergoes a radical change…
a nobler and higher ideal…
produces a tangible difference…
a finer…more refined performance.
A story about AKBAR and TANSEN explains it all…
Pleased with Tansen’s singing prowess Akbar praised him greatly.
Tansen humbly requested that the Emperor listen to
his guru…a much greater artist.
Astonished be his caliber…Akbar asked to know the reason for the difference.
Tansen, with candour replied,
“My Guru sings for the Lord and I sing to please you, the Emperor.”
The motive of an action is either to please somebody or to please the Higher Self.
Inspiration when working for the Higher Self
is multifold and yields a superior result.
IN A NUTSHELL:
Knowledge leading to humility ensures success and power…
And produces a spiralling effect of greater knowledge…
…more humility and even greater success and power!!!

CHYK Houston hosts “Fear – Face Everything and Rise” Camp
In January, the CHYKs of Chinmaya Mission Houston hosted the Fear: Face Everything and Rise retreat under the guidance of Vivek Ji and Aditi Ji. The three-day camp included inspiring talks and thought-provoking workshops focused on helping attendees identify and overcome their fears. Over 50 CHYKs from around Texas and the US attended the camp.
Vivek Ji’s discourses highlighted the three fundamental fears, and he provided practical tools to conquer them in the one’s daily lives. He also facilitated interactive exercises that encouraged campers to step out of their comfort zones and to become fearless. From the beginning, Vivek Ji fostered an environment in which campers could engage in honest inquiry about fear and how one can overcome fear to reach their full potential.
In addition, Aditi Ji gave discourses on using Bhakthi as a tool to overcome fear and to experience peace. She also shared her experience in the two year Vedanta Course in Sandeepany Sadhanalaya. As Aditi Ji is from Houston, her presence was a treat especially for the Houston CHYKs who have grown up with her, and it was their first opportunity to interact and learn from Aditi Ji since her time in Sandeepany.
Other camp activities included discussions and team-building workshops centered around the theme. All attendees left the camp feeling inspired to invoke changes in themselves that would allow them to live fearlessly. CHYK Houston plans to host a retreat on MLK weekend every year going forward.

Maha Sivaratri Celebrations Chinmaya Mission Houston – 2017
A blissful Sivaratri at Saumyakasi Sivalaya
Siva means auspiciousness. On February 24 th 2017, as Houston celebrated Mahasivaratri, a day that is most auspicious to Siva, thousands of devotees of the Houston Indian American community had one venue on their minds and calendar – Sri Saumyakasi Sivalaya. In that iconic linga-shaped temple located within the premises of Chinmaya Mission Houston (CMH), a perfect trifecta of festivities, devotion, and spirituality uplifted every devotee. The special day and sacred night was marked by incessant Vaidika chants led by the temple priest Sri Ganesh Sathyanarayanaji as an almost unending stream of devotees filed through the temple. As the evening progressed, the crowds grew stronger in numbers. The festivities began around 9 am when the Utsava Murti was worshiped with Ksirabhiseka. The Mahanyasa Purvaka Rudrabhiseka, performed to the Vaidika chants of Sri Rudram, highlighted the glories of Lord Siva. True to the declaration that Sri Rudram bestows happiness on both chanter and listener, everyone was moved to a state of bliss in that divine atmosphere. Even the basement of the temple got transformed into a mini Kailas, thanks to the wonderful artistic seva of CMH volunteers. Devotees of all ages – infants to the aged – waited sincerely in a long winding line to perform their personal Ksirabhiseka to the Lord’s idol placed there. This intimate experience made bhakti flow from the hearts of all, like the Ganges that flowed from the mini Kailas. Invoking more auspiciousness, the evening’s Laghunyasa purvaka Ekadasa Rudrabhiseka made all hearts reverberate to the continuous chants of Vaidika hymns. The Sivalinga-shaped temple glowed with beauty, both from the bright illumination as well as mesmerizing aura. Devotees were able to watch the Rudrabhiseka on a couple of giant screens and listen to the chants of Sri Rudram as they made their way inside the temple. The final hour before midnight saw a silent meditation elevating the bhaktas present to another realm. The silence experienced was so surreal that it can only be experienced by participation, not described. Through all the blessings of that night, one could feel the silent presence of Pujya Gurudeva, Swami Chinmayananda and witness some key teachings from his commentaries come alive. With the leadership, love, vision, and caring of Acaryas Sri Gaurang Uncle and Smt. Darshana Aunty and their relentless service to the Hindu community for decades, the Bhakti of the devotees was perhaps outmatched only by selfless service – the nishkama seva bhava of the CMH volunteers. CMH once again lived up to the teachings of Pujya Gurudeva by blending all the elements of essential Sanatana Dharma – Bhakti, Karma, Jnana and Dhyana Yogas. The celebrations continued on Sunday 26 th with two sessions of hundreds of families performing the Mahamrtyunjaya Homa. Families participated in chanting the Maha-mrtyunjaya mantra along with their children. Chanting of the “Om Tryambakam …” mantra confers not only longevity but also cleanses our vasanas and burns our sins. With that spiritually significant Homa, the space in Chinmaya Smrti was made fragrant with collective prayers for spiritual purity. As the festivities of a most memorable CMH annual worship comes to a close, there is one thing that those who did not participate can do besides waiting. Make a visit to Sri Saumyakasi Sivalaya and also get to know more about CMH activities and how they are continuing the vision of Swami Chinmayananda by demystifying Sanatana Dharma and making it more practical in our daily lives.

(on Mahashivaratri day : 24 February 2017)Upon completion of 2 Year Residential Vedanta Course 2015-2017 Chinmaya Mission of South Africa
This year’s Mahashivaratri celebration at Durban was uniquely unprecedented and extra special for devotees of Chinmaya Mission South Africa. The initiative was extraordinary, as Vedanta courses are conducted usually in Sandeepany Sadhanalayas in India. South Africa is one among the very few overseas Chinmaya Mission Centres which was blessed with this mammoth task of training the future torchbearers. This Vedanta course at Chinmaya Mission of South Africa has been the ultimate offering at Pujya Gurudev’s feet during his birth centenary year. A total of 16 students joined the full-time Vedanta course, and they were provided excellent residential accommodation, food, clothing, and all study material by the ashram for the period of two years. The ashram has since then become one of the best examples of a modern Gurukul. There were 12 regular students and 4 guest students (total 16) who enrolled, and have completed the course. With divine inspiration, 8 out of the regular students adorned the yellow robes as part of their Deeksha ceremony on the most auspicious occasion of Maha Shivaratri on 24th Feb 2017. Going forward, these newly initiated Brahmacharins will serve our Chinmaya Mission centres in Africa and India.
Pujya Swami Swaroopanandaji, the Global Head of Chinmaya Mission, also sent his blessings and good wishes for the students on this special occasion. The Deeksha ceremony was witnessed by over 200 devotees in the new satsang auditorium “Brahmaloka” where all students welcomed their Acharya Swami Abhedananda with Purna Kumbha and lamps. Bramhachari Abhijit Chaitanya thereafter gave a brief introduction about the course and the Deeksha ceremony. Mr. Pavan Maharaj, trustee of Chinmaya Mission South Africa enlightened everyone about the course highlights and the tremendous efforts that went into this first Vedanta Course in Africa. Invocation unto Lord Ganesha and Pujya Gurudev were rendered through soul-stirring bhajans by Mr. Umesh Giri and Ms. Anuja Sahai – acclaimed singers from India.Thereafter in the divinised and spiritually charged atmosphere of “Brahmaloka” the Deeksha ceremony commenced as Swami Abhedananda handed over yellow robes to the initiated students, and announced their new names as given below.

Swamiji also blessed the other full-time and guest students by presenting them with the Holy Gita book by Pujya Gurudev Swami Chinmayananda. In his message after the Deeksha ceremony, Swamiji upholded the students for their unflinching commitment to the study of Vedanta and dedicating their lives to a higher purpose. Congratulating them for their sincere efforts Swamiji said that it is indeed a very rare possibility that such a noble path would inspire youth of today’s modern age who find the ephemeral worldly joys so captivating. By choosing the path of Brahmacharya these students have wisely chosen a direction that promises the highest and permanent happiness, dedicated to the service of society and seva unto Pujya Gurudev’s grand vision. Swamiji said that each of these newly initiated students will go out in the society becoming a “Young Chinmaya”, ready to love and serve all.Swamiji reminded the students of the immense love and blessings that they all received from Pujya Guruji Swami Tejomayanandaji, during his last visit to South Africa in September 2017.
